Dinghy Sailing 2026

Dinghy Sailing 2026

Overview

In 2026, we’ve designed the dinghy programme to make the most of weekend and evening tides throughout the sailing season—encouraging both new and experienced sailors to get out on the water regularly.

Across the year, we’ll be running a variety of sailing series, along with social and training sessions.

We’re fortunate to have an excellent fleet of club boats available for members to use, and we’re also looking to expand the fleet with additional Laser single-handed dinghies. These will help boost racing and make the most of weekends when sailing will take place directly off the beach.

Club boats are:

  • Free to use for members in their first year

  • Available thereafter for a nominal £5 fee to support maintenance

Pre-Season

Season Kick-Off

We’ll start with a short get-together to discuss plans for the season.
This is a great opportunity to:

  • Share ideas

  • Provide feedback

  • Help shape the programme for the year ahead

Powerboat Refresher Sessions

These sessions are ideal for anyone who has trained with us in recent years and wants to get back on the water.

We’ll cover:

  • Launching and recovery

  • Basic sea skills

  • Capsize recovery

  • Buoy laying (where possible)

Dinghy Park Clean-Up

📅 11th April

Bring a brush or shovel and help clear away the winter grime.
We usually finish with coffee and bacon rolls in the clubhouse—a great social start to the season.

Sailing Season

Spring Series

  • 9 races total

  • General handicap racing open to all

  • Typically 3 races per day

  • Race duration: 20–25 minutes

A great way to sharpen:

  • Boat handling

  • Race starts

  • Confidence on the water

Try-Sail Event

A key event to showcase the club to potential new members.

We aim to:

  • Get lots of people out on the water

  • Offer a fun introduction to sailing

  • Encourage newcomers to continue learning

Coppet Week

Our flagship week-long regatta:

  • One handicap race per day

  • Open to members and visitors

  • Up to 75 boats of varying classes

A fantastic family-friendly week that relies on volunteer support to make it a success.

Sail Training & Social Sessions

Held on Thursday evenings, making the most of favourable tides.

These sessions offer:

  • Fun, relaxed sailing

  • Skill development

  • Opportunity to work towards an RYA Sailing certificate

What to expect:

  • Rescue cover on the water

  • Support from experienced sailors

  • Social time afterwards—hopefully with the bar open as the sun sets

Off-the-Beach Sailing

New for 2026!

On selected Sundays when tides are out most of the day:

  • Sailing starts at 13:00

  • Launching directly from the beach

  • Racing with Laser dinghies and other classes

An experimental addition—we’re excited to see how it goes!

Summer Series

  • 9 handicap races

  • Run as three sets of three races

  • Scheduled during peak summer

Perfect for enjoying warm weather and consistent sailing conditions.

Late Summer Series

An extended series running into early November.

  • General handicap racing

  • Open to all abilities

Racing is one of the best ways to:

  • Improve boat handling

  • Learn from others

  • Build confidence

In Summary

There’s something for everyone in 2026—whether you’re new to sailing or a regular racer.

Come and enjoy what can only be some of the best sailing waters in Pembrokeshire.
